Restructuring
the Public Sector
Economic
changes that have been taking place over the past decade are amied at structural
adjustment of the economy, so there has been a need to adequate the state
mining companies to this new reality.
In this context the Government has and will continue to pursue the policy
of restructuring and privatization of the mining sector.

- Rare
earth minerals of Morrua, Muiane and Marropino mines in the Zambeze province.
- Marble
quarries in Montpuez, in Cabo Delgado province.
- Gold
mines in the Manica province, development of new mines in the Niassa and
Tete provinces.
- Gemstone
mines in Nampula, Zambeze, Niassa and Cabo Delgado provinces.
- Increase
production and local use of bauxite in the Aluvian mines of Manica.
- Increase
production of graphite from Ancuabe in the Cabo Delgado province.
- Promotion
of the rehabilitation and extension of Moatize coal production. Iron ore
exploration
- Initiation
of heavy mineral production from the Angoche (Nampula province), Chibuto
(Gaza province) and Moabane (Zambeze province) deposits.
Development
in the Mining Sector
The
following objectives have been established by the Government
of Mozambique:
- Increase
Mining Production.
- Increase
export of mineral products.
- Promotion
of basic geological exploration activities with objective of creating a
reliable geological information and mapping database.
- Institutional
Development such as: Mining Legislation, Environmental Assessment, Mining
Training of human resources at all levels in order to increase efficiency
in the sector.
